Can Hot Chocolate Help Your Skin?

Psst… yes it can!

4 cups of hot chocolate and a ladle on a marble worktop

For great glowing skin, you not only need a good cleansing ritual and some good skincare, you also need to balance out other factors in your everyday life like stress, exercise, water intake, and diet.

We know the thought of a good diet often summons images of kale salads and green juices, but you can be sure it’s not all gloopy green stuff that gives you a dreamy glow. There’s no doubt Spring is on the way, but there’s still a few cool, grey days forecast so we’re here to tell you that a hot chocolate or two this month could be just as good for your skin as a morning smoothie. The trick is having a *good* hot chocolate though, we’re not talking about those hotel room sachets or the tubs of Cadbury’s powdered mix. You really want to be making this from scratch with just a few simple ingredients:

  • Cacao powder ( 1 tablespoon)

  • Coconut milk (2-3 tablespoons)

  • Cacao nibs (1 teaspoon)

  • A quarter teaspoon of turmeric

  • Sprinkle of cinnamon

  • Hot water to fill up your chosen cup

Optional:

  • Sprinkle of ginger

  • Vegan collagen powder (1 teaspoon)

Mix all your powdered ingredients together in the bottom of your cup, drop the cacao nibs on top. Then stir continually as you pour the hot water in slowly, continue stirring until the cacao nibs have melted in.

Cacao is full of antioxidants which help boost cell renewal, and fight the free radicals that make us age prematurely. Cinnamon and Turmeric are great for reducing internal inflammation and boosting the immune system, whilst coconut milk is rich in electrolytes and improves digestion. So this cup of warm, chocolatey goodness is full of fabulous ingredients that make for a happy tummy and happy skin.

Oh and this little number will also stop you from reaching for the sugary snacks for elevenses or at your 3pm lull which is not only better for your skin, but also your lockdown waistline (but by the way biccies are totally ok and probably delicious dunked into this hot chocolate).
